Crowds of racing enthusiasts are expected at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, NY for their 150th season. StallWatch, the portable surveillance system for extra security and safety, will be in use throughout the 40-day Saratoga Race Course meeting, where more than 900,000 spectators passed through the turnstiles last season.

The 144th running of the Travers Stakes on August 24 is shaping up as a potential battle between Kentucky Derby winner Orb, Preakness winner Oxbow and Belmont winner Palace Malice. It would be the first matchup in the Travers of three Triple Crown race winners since 1982, and StallWatch will be there for these racing mega-superstars and all the other equine athletes at Saratoga.

"The New York Racing Association utilized StallWatch at the Belmont Stakes and again at the 150th anniversary season at Saratoga Race Course,” said Eric Wing, New York Racing Association Director of Communications and Media Relations. “The safety of the horses is of the utmost importance to us."

Officials, owners, trainers and stable managers all acknowledge the benefits of the StallWatch system in the racing and horse show industries. StallWatch clients enjoy not only the convenience, but also the peace of mind the system provides.

"I'm a fan of StallWatch. We are able to monitor our barns from anywhere!" said Hall of Fame Trainer and 2013 Kentucky Derby Winner, Shug McGaughey about his own StallWatch system.

Increase Security Around Your Barn and at the Show with the StallWatch Portable System

Increase Security Around Your Barn and at the Show with the StallWatch Portable System

Written by: Carrie Wirth
Client: StallWatch http://www.stallwatch.com/
Release Date: 2013-07-03

010184Wellington, FL- July 3, 2013- Beef up security at your barn and at the horse show with StallWatch, the portable surveillance system that offers horse owners, riders and trainers the opportunity to monitor their horses 24/7 through their mobile devices and laptops. The system provides peace-of-mind in more ways than one. Not only do users see live video of their horses in their stalls on their smart phones and other devices, they are also able to view the premises around the horses and observe any type of security risk.

One well-known user of the StallWatch system is Michael Matz. Matz is an Olympic Silver Medalist in Show Jumping who was inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame and is now a well-known racehorse trainer with an impressive record, including wins in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes.

“A couple times we looked at the camera and there were some people out in front of the stall that we didn’t know,” said Matz. “When I talked to the grooms they said they were just people who wanted to see him (Union Rags). It helps that we can always monitor who’s in the barn and who’s not in the barn. It’s a great situation for us.

For Matz, the StallWatch system is both about security and the health and safety of the horse.

“First thing in the morning—last thing at night, it makes me feel a little more comfort,” Matz said. “I look to see if he’s laying down—it makes me feel peaceful that he’s resting. And for the owners of the horse who cannot be with him, they can take a look at him and feel in touch with the horse.”

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) became fans of StallWatch when they used the system for the Kentucky Derby. Since the 2013 Kentucky Derby, they had had a camera installed at Gate Five at Churchill Downs for extra security. This is the main gate that goes into and out of the barn area.

“It is one of the better tools in the toolbox,” said Marc Guilfoil, Deputy Executive Director of the KHRC. The safety and welfare of the horses-—that's what we're here for.”
